i bought this unit and was worried about internal antenna but let me tell you this product is awsome its nice that i didnt have to drill a hole in my hard top of my boat to get any kind of signal it has done me well in all kinds of weather never losing any kind of signal glad i bought it and even better it comes as a bundle package for the price to be what it is its well worth it i had the raymarine unit and i must say this was right up there with it good product

This product is wonderful. We love it. We use it shrimping and fishing. My husband had it mounted on his boat professionally. It works wonderful.

I purchased a Lowrance HDS7 when the unit first came out. The dealer and the boating press hailed it as the best new electronic item on the market. It is a fine unit, as long as you never leave the dock. It was designed by someone who has never been at sea. It is in a word, just plain hard to use, much like the original windows program where you had several steps to reach your goal. Recently I had a problem in that the HDS 7 stopped sending the NEMA 0183 sentences to the VHF radio. Neither the dealer or the factory could help me reestablish the link. Luckily, as I was looking for the installation instructions(mine is "in dash" mounted) I came across a factory supplied instruction which had originally been provided by the dealer to correct just this problem. But neither dealer or tech support had any idea of what to do. I used the old instructions and solved the problem in about two minutes, after having spent lots of quality time with both factory and dealer with no results. I recently tried to update, at the factory's suggestion, the software, only to find out that the SD card reader does not work. The remedy suggested is to remove the unit from the dash and send it in for repair. Oh Joy, that sounds like fun. An internet search has revealed that I am far from the only one with the above problems. Oh, and I also like the disclaimer on the screen..."to not use the data from this unit as your primary source of information for navigation." Perhaps Lowrance could tell me why I spent good money for this unit if you can't trust the data. I have a small hand held GPS from another manufacturer that from the factory works easier and has far more information, and has been trouble free for about six years.
